Month of December: Look out for the newest edition of Key Biscayne Magazine! Why is it that hedonists have all the fun? It’s probably because they allow themselves to. This Greek philosophy holds that “pleasure is the highest good.” Letting ourselves be ruled by our indulgences is not always easy. I like to think I’m a hedonist at heart, but that’s after peeling away layers of logic, reason and analysis. Daring to be ruled by our wishes is not for the faint hearted, and it can carry a heavy price tag, but isn’t that the beauty of it? When we treat ourselves—even to simple pleasures like that extra slice of chocolate cake—we are doing something out of our ordinary routine. Being led by carnal pleasures is decadent, but sometimes it’s absolutely necessary.

In this our indulgence issue we offer some great ideas that are sure to stir your desire for extravagance. Luxurious living can be easy to get used to. Champagne and caviar tastes great, 800 thread count sheets are sumptuous to sleep in, and wearing a dazzling piece of jewelry is a thrill–but only if you are not doing it all the time. There’s no better time than this holiday season to indulge. Go ahead and spoil yourself, live in the “now” and savor every moment. Happy Hedonistic Holidays!
