Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. Family Square Dance and Barbecue at St. Christopher’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church! Gents in jeans and ladies in their twirliest skirts will set the fashion tone, big hats are welcome too! The entire family will enjoy the fun, with calling and dance instructions from square-dance professional Chris Phillips of Fort Lauderdale. Whether you’re an old pro or have never been to a square dance before, you’ll find it easy to follow Chris’ directions, so this is a great time to learn. The entire community is invited to join in the doe-see-doe’s outdoors in the east parking area, which will be blocked off and transformed into a huge dance area for the Hoe Down. Barbecue from Shorty’s will be served in the shady Columbarium Garden. (The parish hall will provide back-up in case of rain.) Tickets are available at the church office or at the door. This month's guest speaker for the event is Ruth Quillian Wolever, PhD., a clinical health psychologist and a research director of Duke Integrative Medicine. Dr. Wolever will discuss the integration of innovative mind-body-spirit treatments into mainstream medicine. She has specifically explored such treatments to improve sleep, weight management, diabetes control, and other health indices. Some of this work focuses on the role of integrative health coaching in creating significant lifestyle change. Traffic Advisory for Key Biscayne Residents: Due to the large amount of events and activities happening in and around Key Biscayne this Saturday, we are asking residents to plan accordingly, the events are as follows:
- The March of Dimes' "March for Babies" in Crandon Park, registration at 7am with the event beginning at 9am. 8,000 to 10,000 people are expected at this event. - it should be clearing around noon to 1 pm
- There is the International Dragon Boat Cup and the US Open of Wakeboarding taking place at the Miami Marine Stadium with 1,200 in attendance from 8am until 5pm (this event is also on Sunday with the same times)
- At the Historic Virginia Beach Park, a 500 person event will be taking place, "Green Fun in the Sun Youth Fest", from noon until 8pm
