The Islander News has had some staffing changes. Lia Esteban, who have bee handling classified advertising and circulation for The Islander News for nearly two years, is now working as an Advertising Sales Representative. She will also retain her duties in circulation. "Lia had experience in sales and felt she could be an asset to the newspaper in that capacity," said Islander News editor and publisher Nancye Ray. "In the short time she has been selling advertising she has added several new customers to our client base." ACADEMY OF MARTIAL ARTS STYLE WINS AT THE U.S. OPEN MARTIAL ART TOURNAMENT The Academy of Martial Arts has just come back from an amazing weekend in Orlando, Florida, as they attended the biggest Martial Arts tournament in the World. The US OPEN! Over 4,000 competitors from all over the world turn out to try their skills, and receive the most prestigious titles in the Martial Arts arena. In this tournament the R.D.C.A. competition team was victorious with all competitors coming home with honors.

Out of 7 competitors the Academy of Martial Arts team received 17 awards. David Luo took 1st NAGA Gi and 1st in No Gi,  2nd in Forms, and 6th place in Weapons, Claudio Tamae brought home 2nd place in Weapons, 3rd NAGA Grappling, and 3rd place in Forms, Jaime Cosio, took 1st-NAGA Grappling Gi, 2nd - no Gi and Super Competitor in Forms; Jose Cosio Jr., 2nd - NAGA Grappling no Gi and 3rd-place NAGA Gi, Ovidio Sofronia 3rd in Grappling, Jose Cosio Sr. took 3rd in Grappling as well and Ailton Barbosa concorded his opponent bringing home, 1st NAGA Overall CHAMPION!
