The Chamber in Action
Through its multi-purpose website and 24/7 Visitors Center, the Chamber promotes Key Biscayne as a tourist destination; strengthens the partnership between the residents, business community, and Village government.
A dedicated group of volunteers form the Chamber's various committees—with the guidance and support of the Chamber's professional staff— meet throughout the year to achieve their established objectives.
History of the Chamber
Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce was established in 1957 and is a non-profit 501 (c) (6) corporation, located on the island of Key Biscayne in Miami-Dade County Florida.
It was established as an association of business owners, residents and professionals who work together to support the economic interests of the Key Biscayne community. Membership is open to any person, partnership, association or corporation interested in the business, commercial, professional and civic welfare of the Village of Key Biscayne. The Chamber shall, in all of its activities, be non-partisan, non-discriminatory, non-sectarian and non-political.
The Chamber was originally housed in the Key Biscayne Bank which donated office space, utilities and use of their office equipment. What began as a temporary arrangement evolved into a long-term marriage based on the mutual interests of community service.
In 1994, in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, the Chamber moved from the Key Biscayne Bank into donated office space in the Key Biscayne Shopping Center, made possible by an economic development contract from the newly established Village of Key Biscayne. For the next 5 years the Chamber was nomadic, moving to various donated office spaces.
In 2001, the Village of Key Biscayne was in the process of building a Village Center and the Village Council offered space for the chamber to have a permanent office at 88 W. McIntyre Street, Suite 100.
In 2005 the Chamber made a proactive decision to better represent the business community and its members and the idea of a Welcome Center was born. In 2006 a Fundraiser for the Visitors Center was held and the idea became a reality. The office was reconfigured, a hurricane door put in place, allowing for 24-hour access to over 150 brochures, maps and tourist information.
At present there are 315 members of the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce, and we continue to grow and improve our services.
